While in Corpus Christi, Texas this January/February I got all excited about wildflowers after visiting the Corpus Christi Botanical Garden and picking up a copy of Wildflowers and Other Plants of Texas Beaches and Islands by Alfred Richardson. Here's haiku I wrote:
Lady's Slipper
leggy greens break pond
gnat cloud buzz and buzz like steam
lady’s slipper pair
Lady’s slipper is a type of orchid, phragmipedium, that grow at pond’s edge [2]
White Four O'Clock Drift
melon-colored sky
swell and crash advancing line
white four o’clock drift
White Four O’Clock Drift is the common name for Mirabilis Albida; they flower whitish pink, upright in threes[1]. I felt their name captured the sense of tiredness just at night fall when you want to just sit and stare.
