Sheri's WA Garden

  • Chickaree
Welcome to my garden. These are pictures of what is currently blooming in the yard and were taken by my husband Bob using a Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital camera. I crop them using Photoshop and store at the lowest resolution. I left the older photos of those plants still in bloom. See my weblogs for a complete listing of those plants in bloom, not all of the photographs worked out.

Mother's Day tomorrow

Well, my two aunts, uncle, mother and my sister and her husband are coming to lunch tomorrow, all love Bob's lemon-butter chicken so we'll eat well. We'll probably end up talking about where I may go to school, road trips for visits and play canasta. It should be a fun day, despite our recent loss of my father.

About Partnership

It's only possible when the two partners know what it is they want out of life and then work together to make it happen. If one partner starts living their life through the other, the relationship becomes unbalanced and painful. The person with a life is smothered and the other ends up feeling abused because they don't get what they don't know that they want. I appreciate the hugs.

Human Touch Massage Chair a Key to Relaxation

One of the nicest experiences I had was provided by a chiropractor. Before having the exam, he had patients lie on a massage bed to help relax those stiff muscles that contribute to locked vertebrae. The Human Touch Massage Chair offer a similar experience. The chairs come in a rich variety of upholstery to enable them to fit into your living room décor. The website offers descriptions of the individual chairs, comparisons between different chairs and an overview of the product line. Basically, rollers mimic the actions of a masseuse down the length of your body. Three width settings help reach any part of your body. Foot and ankle massage are also support. This is a paid post.

Sleep Better Store Air Mattresses

The Sleep Better store is the place to find a good quality air mattress that allows you to vary the firmness through 99 different levels using an air pump. If you are picky about the firmness of your mattress, this option maybe perfect for you. I’ve suffered back problems and know that firmer beds often prevent back stiffness and pain. But I like a level of softness too. These air mattresses look like an ordinary spring foam mattress, but they have that additional layer that allows you to personalize your bed to your tastes. The web site looks good and is featuring a sell through Dec 17, 2007. One nice feature of their website is the ability to compare mattress features by mattress size and price in detail. They are also tossing in packages of mattress pads and sheets to purchasers. Cool Max fabrics are used to help reduce heat and flush moisture away from your skin, a feature every menopausal woman should adore. Their About Our beds page explains Cool Max, their digital pumps and air chambers and their warranties. You can find a toll free number at their website and get free shipping to anywhere in the USA quickly. Maybe this is the Christmas Santa sleeps well. This is a paid post.

Holidays, exercise, the lights, and the shoes

Tree

We haven't visited the gym much lately, we try to go four times a week and golf two, but the weather has been atrocious and the Christmas spirit thing is running. We're hosting two get togethers on the 22nd as our commitment to joy, so we've got the Christmas lights, tree and decorations up. We've also managed to be out and about seeing the lights, read more to see where to go in Puget Sound. Meanwhile shopping brought on appreciation for my Nike running shoes and customizing them. I hadn't heard the term pimping sneakers before. I delved into memory lane to discuss my favorite shoe after recalling reading Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. And I did some baking, without much success but read more if you want to hear how to avoid making apocalyptic sugar cookies for the holidays.

My experience with loans

When I was eighteen I got my first Loan in order to buy a new car that didn’t always break down. I had several others, but then when I went to buy a house I had a good credit history of credit payments that were on time and paid in full. The Homeowner loans didn’t seem all that scary. The amount was only three times what I earned in a year. It was only when I went to sign the papers and they showed me the accrued interest over 30 years that I almost choked. The real amount I would pay was ten times the loan amount. Suddenly the interest rate didn’t look all that good. Later, when I had the chance I refinanced my home and took a shorter payment time. In the three years I paid on the shorter-term loan, I accrued far more of the value of my home than I had during the previous seven years. I was so delighted and relieved. Lucky for me, I’ve never needed an Unsecured loans used to pay off my personal credit cards, but this can save you money. I believe that paying in cash and waiting until you can afford your purchase in most things is a prudent way to manage your money. That way, the loans most important to to you have less chance of causing you hardships. This post is sponsored.

Organize Your Garage by Project

CarGuyGarage has garage storage systems that can help you organize your garage by project. Our garage is fairly well organized. We have a line of shelves running the length of one side of the garage on which we store tools, paint supplies, picnic and camping gear and other household project requirements. In the front of our garage, we store the saw horses and have my husband’s workbench. On the far side of the garage, we have all the yard equipment. We use a bunch of hooks to hang all the shovels, weed eaters, picks, rakes, that we used to maintain the gardens. Another shelf holds all the fertilizer, seeds, hand tools for the yard. It’s been a project from the time we moved in because out garage was mostly empty except for the junk stored in the roof that we paid big bucks to move. If we were to move that junk now, it would cost far more. The key to a smooth life is organization that eliminates clutters and stores items where you can find them. Try garage storage system from the web’s best site for organizing your tools and other projects. It might save you time, money and spare you accidents. This is a paid post.

Antique canning jar

My article about a family heirloom was written several years ago, but with all the talk of inflation and a collapse of the mortgage industry, it's still has an important message. Meanwhile, with the harvest season arrived my husband has been busy canning pickles, blackberry jam, salsa and maybe some tomato sauce. We might try canning some soup meat, too. We'll see. Meanwhile, the blackberries are still ripe and sweet and so late in the season. The local nesting pair of Osprey's also still have babies. Are they global warming mad?

Generator Depot USA sells generators and compact tractors

At times in the Pacific Northwest during winter, we have power outages that can last several days. Some people that have septic tanks can find themselves without a working toilet. So to find a good deal on water-cooled generators or on compact tractors made by Changfa, Foton and Jinma, this website is a great place to look. They also have some neat features, like a tool to help calculate the size of generator you need. List prices are shown for every item and the details about each are provided. You can also find alternators, Lister diesels, and transfer switches. They have a 800 number to call for more information. This is a paid post.

We have fluorescent lighting in our garage and in our laundry room. I could use it in my office to make everything more consistently bright and have the bulbs last a lot longer. The Car Guy Garage website has dozens of fluorescent lighting options available for purchase and ranging from skylights to garage lighting. I like it that fluorescent lighting provides longer lasting light at reasonable cost. This is a paid post.

Compare mortgages if you're thinking of buying new property

With the melt down of the mortgage industry at the moment, people thinking about getting their first home might be worried. It’s true that mortgage lenders are carrying bad loans on their books, enough so as to go bankrupt. The bad loans are coming from foreclosed homes. With the real estate market tanking, people who bought homes at high values are finding they can’t sell the place at even lower prices than they paid. It’s also true that several investment funds that bought some of these bad loans have closed their doors while they try to determine what the value of what they bought. Some of these funds bought the interest payments when the loan had a history of payment. Other funds bought the part of the loan that was paid, but again with the drop in values of both the dollar and of real estate, just what they bought is in question. The banks have acted recently by piping money into the market to prevent banks and investment funds from tanking. The banks have also made it more difficult to get a mortgage.

Does this mean buyers should put their plans on hold? Not necessarily. Buyers should decide whether they want a fixed rate mortgages or a variable rate mortgage. A variable rate mortgage might not be the best choice because refinancing such a loan might run into valuation problems. Everyone ought to compare mortgage rates before they choose. Buyers that are looking to buy a property that they intend to rent should look for loans priced for this market.

The "Reseal the Deck" Project

We’re still in progress with sanding down our cedar deck, just the covered half left to go. DIY Home Repairs has some good reviews for tools and other advice. When we first built our deck, we sealed it with a sealer that later got recalled because mold built inside the sealer and turned the deck black. Basically, although it protected the wood, the sealer made the deck look ugly. So we are sanding the deck down, using a belt sander, a hand sander and copious amounts of sandpaper.  The belt sander works the best, removing the old seal off the board lengths quickly. The hand sander is good for corners. To make the sandpaper last a long time, we use an eraser that the sales guy at McLendons recommended. We may have to use a Dremel for the fence posts. Before starting, my husband had to make sure all the deck screws were flat using a cordless drill. After we finish sanding a part, we reseal using Sikkens deck sealer, which so far has worked really well. This is a paid post.

Linens and Things and Home Depot and Loews and IKEA

Linens and Things and Home Depot and Loews and IKEA

By: Sheri Fresonke Harper

Read the article on Judy's Book.

Since we've been making room for two more kids at our house, we've been looking all over for storage solutions -- our best bets are as follows:

At Linen's and Things, we recently solved our laundry room problem by finding three (the fourth we got at the Seatac Mall store) large laundry baskets with lids for 11.99 and two smaller baskets for $8.99, an under the bed box with wheels, and wooden tv trays with a holder.

At Home Depot, we liked the prebuilt shelving units -- they seemed good quality for the price and also a medicine cabinet.

At Loews I found one of the hanging shoe holders for $9.99 and turned it into something to store all our stocking caps, gloves, scarves and other miscellaneous cold weather gear.

At IKEA, I found I liked their 2x4 square box shelves that cost $99 since they could lay flat or stand on end and were really sturdy. Bob put them together in about 1 hour. And they came in your choice of color. I have one laying flat in the living room for games, coloring and probably for the tv set.

Bed, Bath & Beyond is filled with bathroom stuff I never knew I might want...

Read review on Judy's Book.

Bed, Bath & Beyond is filled with bathroom stuff I never knew I might want. We went in search of a shower pole with 4-5 baskets that would fit in the corner of our bathroom. Our experience has show the stick-em-up shelving doesn't last long on cultured marble or tile. Because we were looking for a tiled bathroom, we didn't want anything you needed to screw in. We entered the store, immediately ran into a store employee and asked where do you find one. The young lady escorted us the proper section, showed us the main differences and within minutes we were headed to the cash register having found what we wanted. Here, we were second in line, when asked to go to a far corner cash register and ended up waiting a long time. Oh well, luck of the draw. Anyway, we were happy for the most part with the experience and now know where to find 10 different kinds of wastebaskets and hundreds of other offerings.

Legacy Roofing delivers a skilled crew and a great roof

Legacy Roofing delivers a skilled crew and a great roof

Review of: Legacy Roofing

Read review on Judy's Book.

We needed to replace our roofing this year and my step-daughter who works in the housing industry recommended Legacy Roofing. Their estimator answered our call immediately and set up a really quick appointment. We discussed what we wanted and his estimate came in the range we expected to pay for a 40 year 3-tab roof. The estimator gave an overview of the work to be done, including describing what would happen with vents, gutters, etc. So we went with them. They scheduled a tentative date, then called us every day to let us know when they'd actually arrive, which was three days later. Fine by us. The crew showed up, stripped all the old cedar shingles while laying down plywood and a shield. That done, the shingle crew showed up the following Monday and by Tuesday the work was complete. They also installed a skylight which has been less happy since the work is still in progress since the sheet rock guys were backlogged. Overall, we're very happy we called them
